Visual Art Department Plan

The department plan below detail the Units of Learning planned for each Junior Cycle year group across the 5 terms of the academic year. The projects are designed to be adaptable to all school environments and to be easily differentiated for students of all abilities. A range of units are planned spanning all 3 strands - Art, Craft and Design. However, several of the projects are interdisciplinary in nature and may incorporate elements of 2 or more strands.

Visual Art practices incorporate a wide variety of media and approaches and the curriculum plans are carefully designed to allow students to experience as many as possible. As a teacher, I aim to create an environment in which students create without fear of failure and realise the beauty and potential in their mistakes.  Each unit takes students through the methods of taking an artwork from conception to realisation, with a focus on taking ownership over their own learning and artistic practice. Through visual art, culture, and appreciation students will interact with a variety of contemporary and relevant subjects, encouraging them to develop their own voice and think critically about the world around them.
